Definition
Measuring the use of physical restraint measures per resident (any freedom-restricting measure: any method of action, material or equipment on or near the resident's body that cannot be easily accessed and which restricts freedom of movement or normal access to the body).
Numerator
Number of residents at any time at night (from time residents goes to sleep until resident wakes up) had at least 1 of 9 physical restraints applied during the three-day count (includes: slide rails, additional table, tilted geriatric seat or deep chair from which one cannot stand up, nursing blanket, sleeping bag, pluck pyjamas or other freedom-restricting clothing, belt used in the seat and/or used in bed, wristband, anklet).
Denominator
Total number of residents who attended all three days in the residential care centre during the three-day count.
Exclusions
Short stay residents.
