Of all patient encounters within the past month that used an electronic health record (EHR) with electronic data interchange (EDI) where a prescribing event occurred, how many used EDI for the prescribing event.

Numerator

Number of encounters using an electronic health record (EHR) with EDI, where EDI was used for a prescribing event.

Denominator

All patient encounters where medication prescribing occurred

Exclusions

Controlled substance(s) requiring non-EDI prescription are printed, or prescriptions are printed due to patient preference for non-EDI prescription and indicated in a structured and auditable format, or no prescriptions are generated during the encounter, or the receiving-end of EDI transmission is inoperable and unable to receive EDI transmission at the time of prescribing.
