Defining Attributes

Definition

The prevalence of identified gout in those enrolled with primary health organisations (PHOs), by DHB (percent).

Numerator

Those aged 20 years and over identified with gout using the HealthTracker method from a public hospital admission from 1 January 1988 to 31 December 2019 or who have been dispensed gout-specific urate lowering therapy (allopurinol, febuxostat, benzbromarone) or colchicine from a community pharmacy between 2001 and 2019.

Denominator

Statistics New Zealand population aged 20 and over, using 2019 projections.

Exclusions

Patients with a diagnosis of leukaemia or lymphoma.
