Definition
Were your family or friends involved as much as you wanted in decisions about your care and treatment? The response options to question (28 in 20 measure and 10 in 6 measure) is: Never, Sometimes, Usually, Always, I did not want them to be involved, I did not have family or friends to be involved.
Numerator
A subset of the denominator that represents patients age 18 and older who responded to a question about friends/family being involved in decision making.
Denominator
Patients age 18 and older who responded to questions regarding receiving enough information from hospital staff about friends and family being involved in health decisions, in the Canadian Institute for Health Information- Patient Experiences Survey.
Exclusions
Patient populations not included in maternal, surgical and medical. (To ensure comparability across hospitals and to prevent misinterpretation, results do not include maternity patients).
