Discharges with postoperative haemorrhage or haematoma (secondary diagnosis) associated with a procedure to treat the haemorrhage or haematoma following surgery.
Numerator
Discharges, among cases meeting the inclusion and exclusion rules for the denominator, with any secondary diagnosis code for postoperative haemorrhage or haematoma and any listed procedure code for treatment of haemorrhage or haematoma.
Denominator
Surgical discharges for patients ages 18 years and older.
Exclusions
Exclude discharges: with a principal ICD-10-CM diagnosis code (or secondary diagnosis present on admission) for fracture (FXID *), with any listed ICD-10-CM diagnosis code for joint prosthesis-associated fracture (PROSFXID *), with a principal ICD-10-CM diagnosis code assigned to MDC 14 Pregnancy, Childbirth & the Puerperium (Appendix O: MDC14PRINDX ), with a principal ICD-10-CM diagnosis code assigned to MDC 15 Newborns & Other Neonates with Conditions Originating in Perinatal Period (Appendix O: MDC15PRINDX ), with an ungroupable DRG (DRG=999), with missing gender (SEX=missing), age (AGE=missing), quarter (DQTR=missing), year (YEAR=missing), or principal diagnosis (DX1=missing), with missing MDC (MDC=missing) when the user indicates that MDC is provided.
