Definition
This is a composite measure about the extent to which there are enough staff to handle the workload, staff work appropriate hours and do not feel rushed, and there is appropriate reliance on temporary, float, or PRN staff. Participants are asked to respond to four statements: A2. In this unit, we have enough staff to handle the workload.; A3. Staff in this unit work longer hours than is best for patient care.; A5. This unit relies too much on temporary, float, or PRN staff.; A11. The work pace in this unit is so rushed that it negatively affects patient safety
Numerator
The number of "strongly agree" or "agree" responses to Item A2, and the number of "strongly disagree" or "disagree" responses to Items A3, A5 and A11.
Denominator
The total number of responses to each item. The item-level percent positive scores are divided by 4 to produce the composite measure score.
Exclusions
Response option "Does not apply or don't know' and missing responses are excluded from calculations.
