Definition
The rate, per 1,000 inpatient discharges, with length of stay of 2 or more days, of VTE occurring during hospitalisation.
Numerator
This QI is calculated as the number of adult inpatient discharges with a length of stay of 2 or more days with an additional diagnosis of VTE multiplied by 1000 divided by the denominator.
Denominator
Number of adult inpatient discharges with a length of stay of 2 or more days in the index month.
Exclusions
Excludes discharges with 0 or 1 overnight stays. Maternity and paediatric hospitals are excluded.
