Definition

The acute bed days per capita rates are presented using the number of bed days for acute hospital stays per 1000 population domiciled within a District with age standardisation.

Numerator

The number of acute hospital bed days for unplanned care including emergencies.

Denominator

Domicile population based on Stats NZ population projections.

Exclusions

Non-acute stays, non-case mix stays, overseas domiciled patients, and incomplete stays.
