Definition

In-hospital deaths of patients admitted for Acute Myocardial Infarction.

Numerator

Observed number of in-hospital deaths for AMI patients × national in-hospital mortality rate for AMI patients.

Denominator

Expected number of in-hospital deaths for AMI patients = the sum of the estimated probabilities of death for all separations (meeting the denominator criteria), calculated using national risk-adjustment coefficient.

Exclusions

Additional diagnosis of Cardiac arrest (I46.x) AND Condition onset flag = Condition not noted as arising during the episode of admitted patient care OR same day separations (where date of admission is equal to the date of separation).
