Defining Attributes

Definition

A national mortality rate from a VTE related cause that occurred within 90 days of a patient's last discharge from hospital where they were treated for any cause, per 100,000 adult hospital admissions.

Numerator

The total number of deaths for a given financial year, where the cause of death is VTE related.

Denominator

The number of adult hospital admissions in England for any cause for a given financial year.

Exclusions

Excludes all records where sex was unknown or unspecified, and regular day and night attenders.
