Defining Attributes

Definition

This indicator measures the age-standardised rate of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) performed on patients in acute care hospitals, same-day surgery facilities or catheterisation laboratories.

Numerator

Total number of discharges for PCI for patients age 18 and older.

Denominator

Total mid-year population age 18 and older.

Exclusions

Newborn, stillbirth or cadaveric donor records. Procedures reported by facilities without on-site PCI services. Procedures coded as out of hospital or abandoned after onset. Discharges with medical assistance in dying (MAID) (2018-19 data onward).
