Definition
This measure describes whether patients had enough information when leaving hospital. Results show the percentage of patients who responded most favourably in the Canadian Patient Experiences Survey - Inpatient Care (CPES-IC) survey.
Numerator
A subset of the denominator that represents patients age 18 and older who chose the most positive responses to the questions about information and understanding when leaving the hospital in the CPES-IC survey (questions 37 to 39). Participants are asked to respond to the following questions: Q37. Before you left the hospital, did you have a clear understanding about all of your prescribed medications, including those you were taking before your hospital stay?; Q38. Did you receive enough information from hospital staff about what to do if you were worried about your condition or treatment after you left the hospital?; Q39. When you left the hospital, did you have a better understanding of your condition than when you entered?
Denominator
Patients age 18 and older who responded to questions regarding information and understanding when leaving the hospital in the CPES-IC survey (questions 37 to 39).
