Definition
The proportion of all dementia and Alzheimer deaths which took place in their usual place of residence. Usual residence is defined as: home, care homes (local authority and non-local authority) and religious establishments.
Numerator
Number of deaths with a mention of dementia or Alzheimer's (classified as either underlying cause of death or contributory cause) recorded in each area where the place of death is recorded as home, care home or religious establishment (excluding deaths from external causes) in any one calendar year.
Denominator
Number of deaths with a mention of dementia or Alzheimer's (classified as either underlying cause of death or contributory cause) recorded in each area in any one calendar year.
Exclusions
Excludes all deaths from external causes.
