Data Collection Methods

Telephone interviews on sample of eligible patients discharged from the listed hospitals. Data collected using validated instrument: Hong Kong Inpatient Experience Questionnaire (HKIEQ). The participants must (i) be Hong Kong residents; (ii) be aged 18 or above on the date of admission; (iii) have stayed for at least one night in the listed HA hospitals; (iv) be contactable within two weeks after discharge; and (v) understand Cantonese, English or Mandarin.

Reporting Methods

Reported in 2019 Patient Experience Survey Report (published in 2020) and publication of 2010 study. Two formats used in the 2019 Patient Experience Survey Report: (i) a descriptive presentation of responses by percentages for evaluative items and (ii) calculated scores for evaluative items by converting the categorical responses into a score on a scale from 0 – very poor experience to 10 - very good experience.
