Definition

Percentage of delayed discharge bed days for all delay reasons attributed to mental health specialties. A delayed discharge occurs when a hospital patient who is clinically ready for discharge from inpatient hospital care continues to occupy a hospital bed beyond the date they are ready for discharge.

Public Health Scotland (PHS) delayed discharge monthly data submission. Collects data on The number of people delayed as at a monthly census snapshot. Information provided includes: reason for delay, location of delay and delay length. NHS Boards are required to submit one national data return containing: Details of ALL patients delayed for one or more days within the calendar month. The reporting period covers from 00:00 on the 1st calendar day of the month to 23:59 on the last calendar day of the month.
