Defining Attributes

Definition

The number of re-attendances (to any A&E provider) within 7 days of an A&E attendance, as recorded in ECDS. 7 day re-attendance at A&E is calculated based on the number of unplanned attendances within each year and how many of these attendances subsequently have an unplanned re-attendance within 7 days of the original attendance. All re-attendances are defined to be within 7 days of the patient's first attendance, and over 4 hours to exclude transfers between organisations.

Numerator

The number of re-attendances (to any A&E provider) within 7 days of an A&E attendance, as recorded in ECDS.

Denominator

This is a continuous variable measure. The target population is attendances in ECDS (inferred).
