American Heart Association's GWTG-HF registry, part of a voluntary, inhospital quality improvement initiative started in 2005. Patients are eligible for inclusion in the registry if they are hospitalised and HF is the primary discharge diagnosis. Institutions submit information either on consecutive patients or by random sample (a sample is permitted if the institution had >75 cases per year). Clinical data are abstracted in compliance with the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organisations and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services standards.
