Definition

Median patient transfer time from ambulance to emergency department (in minutes).

Numerator

Median time that it takes from when an ambulance arrives at an emergency department, to the time the patient is transferred to the hospital and handover is complete.

Denominator

This is a continuous variable measure. The target population is patients arriving at an emergency department via ambulance (inferred).

Exclusions

Non-emergency patient transports and Victorian Virtual Emergency Department presentations.

Victorian Emergency Minimum Dataset (VEMD) - comprises de-identified demographic, administrative and clinical data detailing presentations at Victorian public hospitals with designated emergency departments All Victorian hospitals are required to submit data to the VEMD every business day and all presentations for the month without errors should be submitted by the 10th day of the following month.
